The three elements that make up Kedarkantha Peak are spectacular snow, thick white clouds and a panorama that one will never forget. Kedarkantha is situated at an altitude of 12,500 feet above sea level. And rated as a moderate to somewhat easy walk in terms of difficulty, meets all the customs for a wonderful winter trek. BEST KEDARKANTHA TREAK TIME:-
The Kedarkantha trek is one of the few in the Indian Himalayas that can be done throughout the year. Kedarkantha Trek 10 months of the year except for July and August(Months of peak rainfall in Uttarakhand)remains open. The ten months were divided into four seasons. In terms of terrain, difficulty and weather, each of these seasons offers something unique to offer. In a nutshell, I’ll describe the small changes you’ll see throughout the year. This will help you plan your campaign better.
KEDARKANTHA IN DECEMBER, JANUARY, AND FEBRUARY:-
Kedarkantha is known as a winter trip, and for good reason. The gorgeous environment covered with snow and an exciting summit climb especially in winters can make one weak in knees. Indiahikes discovered it, recorded it, and introduced it to Indian hiking as a winter trek. Kedarkantha is an excellent winter excursion, especially for novices. What makes it heal is its way of balancing beauty with adventure in the right proportions. Will be trekking through deep, snow-capped woodlands. You will learn to camp in a thick snowdrift.
HOW TO REACH TO KEDARKANTHA TREK:-
Kedarkantha trek is not very challenging. Once you are in Dehradun, you can easily reach the base campsite using local transport.
The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, which is about 25 km from the city. Dehradun is served by a daily plane from Delhi.
From Delhi, you can take a train to Dehradun. There are frequent trains from Delhi to Dehradun, So you can take an overnight train from Delhi to Dehradun and then take a private vehicle or bus to Sankri.
You can take regular buses from Delhi to Dehradun. Delhi government buses run, so it is recommended. That you take one from Delhi’s Kashmere Gate to Dehradun. After reaching Dehradun, you can take public transport. Or one can hire a private vehicle to reach Sankri.
DAY 1: DEHRADUN TO SANKRI:-
The base camp of the Kedarkantha trek is at Sankri, which is about 186 km from Dehradun. So, the Kedarkantha trek starts from Sankri, And you can reach there by taking both rail and road to Dehradun. Alternatively, you can reach it by plane. And then take a local bus or hire a vehicle or cab to reach the base camp area.
DAY 2: SANKRI TO JUDA KA TAAL:-
Your teachers will give you spikes and garters for you to wear as you travel for your safety. On the second day of the walk, you will have to cover a total distance of 5 km from Sankri to Juda Ka Tal. To warm up, you’ll start by walking for 10 minutes. You will pass Swargarohini on the way and reach Juda ka Tal in the afternoon, where you will spend the night.
DAY 3: JUDA KA TAAL TO KEDARKANTHA BASE CAMP:-
On the third day, you will start making the rhythm of the separation and by late evening you will have reached the Kedarkantha base camp, where you will be able to enjoy the serenity of the splendour of nature. And will spend the night there after dinner.
DAY 4: KEDARKANTHA BASE CAMP TO KEDARKANTHA:-
It will be a long day as you will have to travel 6 km. Before leaving for Hargaon on the same day, you will see Black Peak,Gangotri, Bandarpunch and many other places on the way.
DAY 5: HARGAON TO SANKRI TO DEHRADUN:-
You will return to Shankari and then to Dehradun on the last day of your journey. The total distance to be covered on the last day is also around 6 km. So it will be a long rest day. On your return, you will have the opportunity to visit some of the local communities and take breaks in between meals. When you return to Sankri, take a day off and then leave for Dehradun the next day.
